The great Indian democratic circus is always a spectacle!
After the game, the psephologists work overtime to predict and analyse the
results of the vote cast by the citizen of the country. It’s a complex process,
given the multitude of factors that define the desires of a Nation like India.
This time around, though, the electoral process attracted
the attention of even the ordinary, lay citizen; and there was one primary reason
for that – a party that was the result of a movement that brought the
distraught people together on a single platform. The success of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has
shown a flicker of hope that ordinary people can shake the confidence of the
seasoned politician with the strength of conviction and sincerity. Having said
that the real test of the party will begin now, depending on how they carry
themselves as the principle opposition party in the National Capital Region and
whether they are able to sustain the momentum into the national elections slated
in five months. I hope that this will
not be a mere aberration in the political game or a ‘Frankenstein’ created by
the media.
Nonetheless, this party has been able to wake the opposing political outfits from their deep slumber. Going forward it would be of interest to see how the political scene unfolds!
This one's for the power of the people, both to choose who would rule, and the choice to rule.
