It is a tradition to end a classical concert with a rendition of Raga Bhairavi. Technically, the Raga is sung in the morning hours. But I recollect reading somewhere that it was Pt. Paluskar who began the practice of concluding a concert with Raga Bhairavi.
I've tried to sift through the spaces in my head (the non-empty ones), but have not been able to trace the origins of that piece of 'knowledge'!
The Raga is complete (heptatonic) and is an expression of 'bhakti' or devotion, leaving one with a sense of calm.
One of my all time favourites is a thumri in the raga, as sung by Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan
'Baju band khul khul jaye'
Raga Bhairavi, Pt. Pannalal Ghosh
(Pt. Pannalal Ghosh was among the first few flautists who played in the 'gayaki ang')
