Punctured Feminism!

Years ago, I was told by a gentleman, "If you want to drive, you must learn to change a flat tyre as well".
Yesterday, as I was on my way to listen to some good friends sing, my car had a flat tyre. The lovely weather and occasion demanded I wear a saree; but unfortunately, I soon found myself crawling under the car to fix the jack in the right place. A very chivalrous man, who was driving by, pulled over and offered to help and I, having my 'feminism' all misplaced, replied, "Oh, thank you so much, but I think I can do it myself"!
The man smiled, wished me and left. No sooner had he started his car than I regretted declining his offer.
Well, there were other wonderful men who did pause as they drove by, but more to enjoy the spectacle I was making of myself - saree, tyre, et al!
The short of the story simply is that I was such a mess at the end of it all that I just turned back. And the moral was: take help when it is offered!
