Was Thinking of You

I receive many messages that begin with that line. And then links to articles, attachments of pictures etc., follow. Sometimes I wonder why anyone would think of me when reading the article or what it was about the picture that brought me to mind; most times I find no answer! But then, how associations are made by the mind is a hard guess. The most amusing are those when food becomes the trigger to thinking of me!

We, Indians, have superstitious-associations for almost every physiological reaction of the body: if you sneeze as soon as you head out, wait a while, as that could be a sign of bad things to come; if someone calls out to you from behind just as you are leaving home, rest your seat for a few seconds so you can restart the process all over; if your eyelid twitches, its ominous and if you hiccup, someone is thinking of you! Yes, you got it right - we are a crazy bunch of people.

Actually, it is nice to be thought of, of course, in a nice way! If thinking of me triggered negative emotions, I don’t think I would like myself for it. It’s quite flattering to be thought of; it means you have occupied a corner in someone’s mind-space. I do think of people, too - but I guess I don’t quite share that easily. I’m not sure if people would be happy knowing I think of them!

A friend recently shared an article on Karwa Chauth and I could imagine why he did so. Another friend sent me a picture of a plate full of Apple Strudel with a cup of hot chocolate accompanying it, with a line - “Was Thinking of You”!
Nice. Thanks for thinking of me.
