In between all my emotional catharsis, trying to accept my losing Casper, I have managed to keep my head above the ocean waters of a very active nation! We celebrated Women’s Day with great fanfare with companies competing to surpass each other in their demonstration of love and respect for the women folk on their rolls - an all woman branch, an all woman flight crew, discounts galore for women shoppers etc. But the country’s budget of this year neglected the aspects of healthcare for women, young girls suffering from kidney ailments were left untreated because treating them was not considered a sensible ‘investment option’, marital rape laws still remain fuzzy and in some part of the country a woman corporator is slapped by a man. The larger picture simply means that we have failed to look beyond the symbolism of Women’s Day!
The media has been having a field day, though! With doctoring of video recordings to noisy debates on sedition, patriotism and nationalism, the media has had great fodder to cause their TRPs and ad-revenues climb northwards. Our media could surely give Trumpji a run for his money! A 28 year old is able to stir the emotions of a nation with his impromptu speech on nationalism - one may not have agreed with much of what he said, but ignore him one certainly couldn't, his sense of humour after the ordeal of an arrest on sedition charges, intact. Suddenly, everyone’s vocabulary has increased by the addition of the three words to their lexicon! And our great Republic ensures freedom of speech, so every citizen, a fifteen year old included, is allowed to voice her/his opinion on them. Come to think of it, we have been debating a lot and Nationalism seems to be the talk of the Nation!
A liquor baron does more than the ‘hic-and-gig', decides to reach for the skies in a not-so-drunken state, borrows monies from banks and leaves the country without repaying a penny. He walked out straight, leaving everyone else in a tizzy of disbelief! This sounds more intriguing than the New York Fed -Bangaldesh Bank $81 million dollar heist.
On the sidelines, our economic indicators look very stable and promising!
